Pre-College Program
IU sponsors a variety of programs offering college-preparatory experiences for students from first grade through high school. The list below includes a number of them that focus on science and others that include science as an option of study. Some of these programs offer college credit.
BloomingKids
A state-wide program that pairs up local 1st through 4th grade students with college students, acting as mentors, to participate in activities designed to expose the children to arts, culture, community service, & education in the collegiate environment.
Indiana Junior Academy of Science
A program sponsored by the Indiana Academy of Science designed to encourage high school students to pursue an interest in science study and careers. Indiana high schools register to participate in the program, and science teachers accompany their students to the competition.
IU Science, Technology, and Research Scholars Program (STARS)
If you're an outstanding high school student and you're planning a career in science, IU STARS can provide you the competitive edge necessary for success. The IU STARS Program gives a select group of science majors an opportunity to conduct research while earning a bachelor's degree at IU.
Pathfinders
The goal of this summer camp program is to provide middle school students with motivation and preparation for college success. The campers attend classes or workshops in numerous departments or schools across the IU campus.
Science Olympiad
Indiana University Bloomington is proud to be a part of Indiana Science Olympiad, an exciting, hands-on science competition for middle and high school students with more than 30 events covering all the science disciplines plus math; Olympiad summer camps are also available at IU Bloomington.
Upward Bound
A year-round program for qualifying 9th through 12th grade students that offers school-year distance learning sessions, tutoring sessions twice-a-week, and a six-week summer residential academic experience on the IU Bloomington campus.
