The admissions links below are for the Ph.D. Program in Chemistry. If you are interested in our other programs, please follow the directions provided for each Degree Program.

Our department provides outstanding opportunities for advanced study in chemistry. Our faculty are involved in cutting-edge research and stand at the forefront of their research communities. Our Ph.D. graduates leave well-prepared for careers in government,  industrial, or academic research, as well as teaching positions. Our department has highly skilled professional and scientific staff that support our students' research with state-of-the-art analytical equipment, computer resources, and shops.

We are committed to equal opportunity and strive to increase inclusion and participation among underrepresented communities at all academic levels. Our Diversity Affairs Committee initiates and supports diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives both within the Department and for the broader IU community. We provide broad support to individual students and their organizations and sponsor activities which enhance knowledge of diversity, inclusion, and equity throughout the department. Please see our Diversity page for more information on departmental policies and student groups.

We use a holistic approach to evaluate applicants to our program. We appreciate that students come from a variety of backgrounds and present different strengths that must be weighed by the admissions committee. The GRE is not required for our application, and we offer a fee waiver that offsets the cost of our application for qualified students. The University also offers a variety of scholarships available to promote diversity on campus. Finally, we were recently (2019) granted partner status with the ACS Bridge Program, which provides admitted students with additional mentoring and support.  Applications for this Bridge Program should be submitted through the ACS Bridge Program website.

Please use the links above to apply for our chemistry graduate program. Application materials are due by December 1.

Domestic from underrepresented minority groups are eligible for an application fee waiver.
