Research Assistantship

Research assistantships are awarded on the basis of good academic standing, experience, and the interest of recipients in research problems for which assistantship funds are available. Stipends are generally comparable to those of associate instructorships. Research assistants may work on their own research with the consent of their research advisor. Under certain circumstances a student may receive a research assistantship for work with a professor who is not his or her thesis advisor or a research problem which will not apply toward his or her thesis. In all cases, the specific terms of a research assistantship are decided upon recommendation of the individual faculty members responsible for the funds involved.
