Use of Facilities, Chemical Waste Pickup, and More

April 1, 2020

A few notices and reminders.

  1. For essential research projects: Facilities managers and staff are working from home. If you need to use facilities, please give the managers advance notice, even if you are only using walk-up self-service, so they are prepared for possible service and maintenance needs.
  2. EHS will pick up chemical waste on April 2, 16, and 30 rather than every week.
  3. If you are still placing orders for supplies, you are encouraged to have items shipped to your home, unless there are chemical safety issues.
  4. Mail is not being delivered to the department-it is being kept at IU Mail Services Office (3050 East Discovery Parkway, adjacent to IU Surplus). Information like this is being updated on the FAQ link that you can reach from https://www.chem.indiana.edu/safety/covid-19-resources/
  5. The department will now only provide the College-issued letters of transit for instructional purposes. If enforcement of stay-at-home orders is escalated on campus beyond breaking up student parties,  it is our understanding that the Vice President for research will provide letters of transit for essential researchers.
  6. UITS has addressed numerous issues with the online platforms.  Expect better communications on teaching resources (Zoom, Canvas, & Kaltura) status issues. Please report issues to 855-6789, ithelp@iu.edu, https://kb.iu.edu/d/abxl#iub and to Chemitg@indiana.edu.

We were in a very different place on 1 March.  Continued thanks for your adapting to this situation.
