Final Exams, Stay-At-Home Order, Box Retirement

April 24, 2020

A few updates to wrap up the fourth (!) week of online instruction:

  1. Several of you have been asking about whether you can administer final exams with a more flexible timeframe.  The College asks that you confine your exams to the normal time allotted.  From Justin Grossman, Assistant Academic Dean: “Because students may have other finals they must attend adjacent to your final exam, you should be using the time window allotted by the official final exam schedule—especially if you are holding the exam at a specific time for all students. (If it’s a timed exam that can be taken at any time within a broader window, this may be less important. I suspect, however, this is not what you are planning.) No doubt there could be technical issues that may require some flexibility. Of course there are also those students who have accommodations through DSS who get more time as well”
  2. Wondering about ramping up on-campus activity?  We do not know whether the Governor is going to extend the stay-at-home order, and the campus is just starting discussions on the manner in which research and staff will transition back to on-campus.  I will keep you up to date with any developments.
  3. Regarding discontinuation of BOX:  From the email sent by ITG on Wednesday, 22 Apr 2020 at 3:11 pm, We need to indicate which platform we would like our box content moved by May 22.  The default is Microsoft OneDrive, the alternative is Google Drive.  Please see the email from ITG for details.
  4. Deadline for submitting Outstanding Staff Award Nominations is today at 4pm.

Hope you are all staying well. Thanks again for everything you have been doing to adapt.
