Online Instruction, Hand and Surface Sanitizer, Mail

March 20, 2020

Here is a distillation of the information that rolled in since yesterday.

  1. Guidance on teaching from the College: End of semester is still May 8, students should not be assigned any work until online instruction begins the week of March 30, and please also include ‘asynchronous’ instruction, i.e., recording any synchronous class meetings and making the recordings available for students with limited access to technology. The College also recommends having a statement on Intellectual Property on your syllabi. See the email sent by Rick Van Kooten on 19 March at 10:32 am for more details.
  2. Again, the information about staff telecommuting and stockroom hours from earlier messages is still valid. For today, please be sure to let Ashley know if you have any outgoing FedEx shipments this afternoon ASAP.
  3. Thanks to those who helped get the reagents for the hand sanitizer and surface sanitizer Jonathan Karty mixed up and has made available in t the stock room (tubing cutting station).
  4. There have been some questions about when it’s necessary to use VPN when working remotely. I have copied guidance form Brian Crouch at the bottom of this message.
  5. From the business office: Mail is still coming in, but with few staff physically in the office, you may not always be able to access your mail via what is now the staff break room, so it would be a good idea to have your mailbox key if you are expecting something important via snail mail.

Here is a YouTube video my brother (currently on lockdown at INSEAD) found, if you need light-hearted resonance with others coping with getting courses online. We will survive! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCe5PaeAeew

As always, we appreciate all you are having to do to adapt to the every changing landscape. Hope you can find the time to enjoy the weekend.
