Essential Personnel Cards, PPE, Remote Access to Literature

March 25, 2020

A few updates since yesterday.

  1. For people listed as essential personnel who have not yet gotten a card, card services are suspended (email from monitor@indiana.edu sent 5:04pm yesterday). You can call or email to get a temporary card (317-274-0400, crimsoncard@iu.edu). However, in the meantime I have been collecting your names as you’ve been responding to chemchr. I’ve been told that either the College or VPR will be providing the letter/document soon.
  2. To clarify the essential personnel versus essential research question:
    1. Essential personnel are designated to ensure the integrity of the research infrastructure (cryogen replenishing, checking vacuum systems, glove boxes, cell lines, etc.) but not for conducting research during hibernation. Most labs and facilities fall into this category. The department has sent the names of all of the essential personnel you have provided us to the College.
    2. Essential research, when cleared by the Vice President for Research, will continue to be conducted during the hibernation period. If you intend to apply for the hibernation exception for essential research, please let me know if you have not already (thanks to those of you who did already).
  3. IU Health will be making another supply run to the Chemistry loading dock at noon today. If you’ve come across any additional PPE that you can donate, you can bring it down to the dock before then. Thanks to all for your generous donations.
  4. Reminder for remote access to the literature from Jen’s and Brian’s emails yesterday, no VPN is necessary to access journals (please bookmark : https://kg6ek7cq2b.search.serialssolutions.com/ejp/?libHash=KG6EK7CQ2B#/?language=en-US&titleType=JOURNALS)
