Chemistry Research Restart
College and University Restart Phases
Beginning June 1st, 2020
Maintain low density in all buildings while facilities operations adjusts to new cleaning protocols and our own shared facilities assess how well their restart plans can be implemented. The College has released its own research restart guidelines, available here: College Research Restart Guidelines. Do not expect 1 June to be business as usual.
We are limiting the number of group members to 50%, or 2 for groups smaller than 4 until we are certain that we can support a safe research environment.

Maintain social distancing.
Researchers must maintain > 6 ft. linear distance between themselves and others at all times.
Wear a mask.
Masks should be worn while in the Chemistry building and Simon Hall.
Work remotely.
Only come to the laboratory or facility to execute experiments or perform functions that cannot be accomplished remotely.
Stay home if you feel sick or have been exposed to COVID-19.
If you have been exposed to COVID-19, or have symptoms, stay home and report any issues to the PI or research supervisor.
Wash your hands frequently.
Soaps and hand sanitizers are strong deterrents against viral transmission and should be employed as frequently as possible. Hand sanitizer and surface disinfecting solutions will be available on the loading dock during stockroom hours.
Avoid touching your face.
Minimizing face-hands contact will minimize opportunities for infection.
Sanitize work surfaces.
Follow guidelines for cleaning work surfaces, especially in common areas. If you touch it, clean it.
Maintenance and Custodial Support
We are awaiting assurances from campus that custodial and maintenance crews will be returning in some reasonable support capacity.
Submitting Facility Restart Plans
Please provide your restart plan to Jon Karty PRIOR to indicating that you have chair approval of your restart plan. I will need to review the plan and provide it to the College. Confirmations will be sent to each PI when formally approved. Once received, please complete the form, indicating that your restart plan has been approved by the Chemistry Chair.
Regarding PPE
If you would like the department to collect what you’ve ordered, please indicate “RED IU CHEMISTRY VAN” in the vehicle description, and let Jon Karty know that you have done so. We will make a trip to the collection point on Thursday and Friday, so knowing whose orders we will be picking up will be helpful.
