Samantha Harvey received her B.S. in chemistry from Indiana University in 2016 where she conducted research in Prof. Sara Skrabalak’s group. She earned her Ph.D. in 2021 from Northwestern University focusing on ultrafast spectroscopy in semiconductor systems under the guidance of Profs. Michael Wasielewski and Richard Schaller. As a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Washington in Profs. Brandi Cossairt and Daniel Gamelin’s groups she studied the synthesis and magneto-optical properties of nanomaterials.

Samantha will begin her independent career in the chemistry department at IU in August 2025. Her group will focus on both the synthesis and spectroscopy of colloidal inorganic nanocrystals. Using an interdisciplinary approach, the Harvey group will examine fundamental properties in these materials including spin/magnetism, charge transport, photochemistry, and nanocrystal formation towards applications in QIS, spintronics, catalysis, and energy storage.
