
Deborah A. Snaddon received B.Sc. (Hons) (2003) and PGDE (2005) degrees from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. She worked for a short time in the field of Analytical Chemistry prior to moving to Chemistry education and taught in Scotland, England, and Germany before joining the Department of Chemistry at Indiana University in August 2015.
Deborah teaches courses in General Chemistry. Courses (past and present) include Elementary Chemistry I, Elementary Chemistry Laboratory I, Introduction to Chemical Principles (Lecture and Laboratory), Supplemental General Chemistry, and Principles of Chemistry and Biochemistry II. These courses encompass a range of levels (Freshmen to Seniors) and course populations (typically 100 - 600 student enrollment).
In addition, Deborah is involved in the broader Chemistry community through NSF-funded collaborative outreach projects, the development and coordination of the Chemistry Undergraduate Teaching Intern Program (ca. 250 interns per semester), and as Chemistry department liaison for the Advance College Project which supports the provision of low-cost College degree credits to high school students throughout Indiana and also involves the delivery of ongoing professional development opportunities and training for teachers.
Deborah developed and coordinates the STEMentor Network: a peer mentoring program which advises and supports undergraduate students in both their academic career and additional extra-curricular resume building opportunities, particularly in preparation for application to competitive post-graduate degree programs. She is also the Chemistry department liaison for the Indiana University Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL), supporting faculty Campus-wide through professional development.
