Guide to Accessing Articles and Library Content

Jennifer Simms, with IU Chemistry Library, has identified what they feel is the best way to connect to the Libraries’ online resources.  The method that has provided the best, and easiest, success works through a Chrome browser extension.  Faculty are reporting that it’s easy and it works and it doesn’t involve cutting or pasting or moving between sites.  Jennifer’s explanation for the process can be found below.  Please note, this method does not require a VPN to use.

Chrome Browser Extension:

1) For Chrome, use EZProxy Redirect Chrome extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ezproxy-redirect/gfhnhcbpnnnlefhobdnmhenofhfnnfhi?hl=en.
This adds a button to Chrome that you can click on to try to reload the current web page using the proxy. For example, if I go to https://doi.org/10.1145/1145287.1145314 and hit a paywall, I can click on the EZProxy Redirect button in the browser to reload the page via EZproxy and gain access to the article.

2) Please create a custom URL using this extension, paste in: https://proxyiub.uits.iu.edu/login?url=$@
Add it to the EZProxy Redirect proxies list, as displayed in the image below:

Then, once this is in place, if you hit a paywall, you can click the Extension button, it will reload the page with the library link info and if we have a license, it should open the content.  Please keep in mind that this, too, is not perfect… and the extension isn’t pre-programmed to know what we have and don’t have.  If you use the extension and get and Ooops message, and you think we have the content, place paste the DOI into the library site and if you have a moment to share with me any exact DOIs that are not resolving when you believe they should be, please email those to me.
