The Department of Chemistry has built a strong network to support our students’ career development by establishing relationships with
potential employers and offering career counseling through faculty mentoring. Our Chemistry Recruiting Program offers both e-recruiting and
on-campus recruiting services for students and employers. The department has a very active undergraduate research program, teaches a course for
undergraduates in Chemistry Career Planning, and offers the opportunity for undergraduates to teach. Our Undergraduate Office collects and
posts announcements of summer internships and undergraduate research opportunities. Students are also encouraged to explore careers by
volunteering, joining professional organizations, and studying abroad.
The Department of Chemistry also offers a great variety of employment opportunities such areas as academics, scientist positions, laboratory technicians,
administrative assistance, purchasing, technical services (machinists, electricians, glass blowers), student and teaching Services, and
much more. When there are openings in the department, they are posted through the IU Human Resources Web site.
Both the staff and faculty are
well-supported by the department. The research faculty enjoy first-class technical services and an office devoted to assisting them with their
teaching responsibilities. The staff is well-appreciated and given opportunities for professional development.
