Pre-College Programs
IU sponsors a variety of programs offering college-preparatory experiences for students from first grade through high school. The list below
includes a number of them that focus on science and others that include science as an option of study. Some of these programs offer college
credit.
Advance College Project
A partnership program between Indiana University and selected high schools within the states of Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio that offers college
credit to qualified high school seniors who enroll in IU general education courses that are offered at their high schools.
BloomingKids
A state-wide program that pairs up local 1st through 4th grade students with college students, acting as mentors, to participate in activities
designed to expose the children to arts, culture, community service, & education in the collegiate environment.
Chemistry Tutors for High School Students
The Student Affiliates chapter of the American Chemical Society (SAACS) maintains a list of undergraduate students who are interested in tutoring high school students in chemistry, math and other science courses. Meeting times and fee arrangements are strictly between the student and tutor. Please contact tutors directly for availability.
Indiana Junior Academy of Science
A program sponsored by the Indiana Academy of Science designed to encourage high school students to pursue an interest in science study and
careers. Indiana high schools register to participate in the program, and science teachers accompany their students to the competition.
IU Science, Technology, and Research Scholars Program (STARS)
If you’re an outstanding high school student and you’re planning a career in science, IU STARS can provide you the competitive edge necessary for success. The IU STARS Program gives a select group of science majors an opportunity to conduct research while earning a bachelor’s degree at IU.
Jim Holland Summer Enrichment Program
An exciting opportunity for Indiana minority high school students to broaden their horizons in science and prepare for collegiate study; offers
lectures, discussions and hands-on laboratory experiences led by IU faculty members and Indiana high school teachers.
OPEN Program
A nonresidential program offered by IU Bloomington through the Office of Summer Sessions and Special Programs to give qualified Bloomington-area
junior and senior high school students special access to regularly scheduled IU courses for college credit.
Pathfinders
The goal of this summer camp program is to provide middle school students with motivation and preparation for college success. The campers
attend classes or workshops in numerous departments or schools across the IU campus.
Science Olympiad
Indiana University Bloomington is proud to be a part of Indiana Science Olympiad, an exciting, hands-on science competition for middle and high
school students with more than 30 events covering all the science disciplines plus math; Olympiad summer camps are also available at
IU Bloomington.
Summer Precollege Institutes
This summer program gives students entering eleventh or twelfth grade the opportunity to get a head start on their college education by offering
classes for college credit, access to IU's technological and academic resources, housing in IU's residence halls, field trips, and more.
Upward Bound
A year-round program for qualifying 9th through 12th grade students that offers school-year distance learning sessions, tutoring sessions
twice-a-week, and a six-week summer residential academic experience on the IU Bloomington campus.
