Government
City
The City of Bloomington government offices are located at 401 N Morton Street in the Showers Center. The general information number there is 339-2261. The city administers such services as the animal shelter, fire and police, parks and recreation, streets, and sanitation.
Bloomington also has a city bus service, Bloomington Transit.
County
Many of the Monroe County government offices are located at the Courthouse downtown. The county administers such services as voter registration and elections, circuit court, county police, and solid waste management (including the recycling center).
The Monroe County License Bureau issues Indiana drivers licenses and Indiana plates for your car. They are located at 118 S Rogers. Their phone number is 336-3018. Make sure you call ahead to find out what pieces of identification/proof of insurance you will need to take with you.
Bloomington also houses the main branch of the Monroe County Public Library at 303 E Kirkwood. Their general information number is 349-3050.
State
The main state government agencies you might deal with are Indiana State Parks and the Indiana Department of Revenue (local office at 410 Landmark Avenue -- 339-1119).
The Indiana General Assembly has an informative web page that includes a list of representatives and senators as well as information about legislation being considered in the current session.
Federal
There are a couple federal government offices you might have reason to visit. The Social Security Administration office is located at 555 E Miller Drive. Their phone number is 334-4222. The main US Post Office is located downtown at 206 E 4th. Their phone number is 334-4030.
