Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry
This graduate program integrates the chemical and biological sciences. Students receive training and conduct research that combines several aspects of biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, structural biology, cell biology, and genetics — along with organic, inorganic, physical, and analytical chemistry. Faculty members participating in the program come largely from the chemistry and biology departments, with additional faculty in a variety of departments, including medical sciences and psychology. Faculty research interests span nearly all aspects of the structure, function, and dynamics of proteins, nucleic acids, and other biomolecules.
Course requirements for the Biochemistry Program include completion of a 12-hour "core" of biochemistry classes, followed by six additional credit hours of advanced courses in biochemistry, chemistry, or biology.
